The title of the piece Static Days describes the busy but dull days. I have applied some Chinese music atmospheres in this piece, from the "elegance" in the music of literati to the "leisure" in silk-and-bamboo to the "bustle" in wind-and-percussion. By integrating the formal structure with the conflict between the "static" and "moving" musical elements and the overlapping of the scenes and lines of the texture of the music, I have created the pressure in the piece.
My health was bad during the days when I composed this piece. I had to keep taking medicines for more than two months and the death of my friend at that time made me feel that lives are fragile. The pressure and the tension in the music are like someone who is recollecting his past before death yet the time keeps on going. It expresses a contradicting and frightening feeling and the helplessness before death.
